Coach Frank | Helping Schools

At Coach Frank Skateschool, we have run a wide range of sessions at different junior and high schools around the South-West. Our school sessions give all demographics of children and teenagers an opportunity to try and learn to skateboard.

From our experience of teaching in schools, we have helped children and teenagers to find their love for skateboarding. This is an incredible way of really bringing out confidence in the youthful generations and it helps to encourage more use of the unfacilitated, world class skateparks around the South-West.

We focus heavily on making skateboarding a safe and positive experience for everyone. Through a series of small wins and guided progress, we prioritise making skateboarding a highly inclusive experience and allowing it to become accessible for people to try.
Skateboarding is a highly dangerous sport and has been something that has caused a high percentage of injuries. One of the main goals of these sessions is to ensure that new users are taught how to skateboard safely so they don’t build unsafe habits when learning. Here are some of the key factors we prioritise to make skateboarding a safe and positive experience:

• Strong encouragement of full safety gear.
• Small and low impact obstacles.
• Clear safety training and learning correct skateboard composure.
• Allowing people to not be involved if they are unsure.
• Advocating for strong peer-to-peer encouragement.
• Induction on skatepark etiquette.
• Learning skateboard maintenance.
